Born in 1923, Armfield studied at the NGV and RMIT, and took a number of painting tours in Italy. For some years he worked as a freelance cartoonist for the Melbourne ‘Argus’ before taking up painting full time in 1965.
Armfiled exhibited widely including many solo shows at the Australian galleries in melbourne, also at the Bonython Gallery and galleries in Queensland and Tasmania.
