Inez ABBOTT

Inez Abbott was born in Bendigo in 1896 and died in 1957. Abbott is known for her impressionist watercolour landscapes. In the early 1920s she went to Europe to study and paint, and remained there until 1938, exhibiting in European Galleries and Paris salons. She returned to Bendigo around 1939 and continue to paint until her death. Abbott left a large collection of her watercolours to the Bendigo Art Gallery.

Exhibitions: Exhibited in Europe, details unknown. In 1939 Seddon Galleries held a major exhibition of her work. In 1983 Bendigo Art Gallery held an exhibition of her work.
EDUCATION: c.1919 Bendigo School of Mines. Studied under Thomas Woodward. 1922 Academie Delacluse, Paris, France and later Rome, Italy.
COLLECTIONS (Known): Bendigo Art Gallery.
