Henk Gerrit Guth was born in Holland in 1921, and arrived in Australia in 1961. He studied at the Arnhem (Holland) academy of arts (1938-1941). Henk settled in Central Australia, opening a gallery in Alice Springs. He became well known and very popular for his colourful, richly textured outback scenes.
Unfortunately due to a disastrous fire you can no longer see the huge diorama he painted in 1974-1975, which was about 6 metres high and extended around the walls of a circular 61 metres circumference room. Henk made and used about 700 kilos of paint to complete the picture. The whole gallery was destroyed, along with numerous valuable paintings by Guth and other outback artists like Pro Hart.
