Adam Kriegel was born in Poland, arriving in Australia in 1947 when he was already an established and respected expressionist artist and brilliant musician.
Kriegel trained in both art and music in Warsaw, Brussels, Paris and Sydney. His dual talents led him to be a concert violinist with the Sydney University Conservatorium Of Music and later as a teacher of art in Adelaide.
Kriegel did not start exhibiting seriously until the early 1970s, and held a dozen or so solo exhibitions, mainly in Adelaide, Ballarat, and Melbourne. His exhibition Vincent Van Gogh, a series of head studies, was received with critical acclaim in 1973 when shown at the Munster Arms Gallery.
Kriegel’s works are held by the Art Gallery Of South Australia, National Gallery Of Australia, The National Gallery Of Victoria, WA Institute Of Technology, private and regional collections.
