Charles “Hoppy” Hopgood was born at sea in 1917 en-route to Australia and died in 1992.
With not much formal training, he became one of the many self-taught ‘Broken Hill’ artists, painting in a fluid, impasto, naiive style.
Hopgood exhibited widely and won the Broken Hill festival Prize in 1968.
Broken Hill Regional gallery mounted a tribute exhibition in 2005.
