From 1965 he held regular solo exhibitions at mainstream galleries in Brisbane, Sydney, and Adelaide. Commissions include a tryptich mural depicting the history of the Northern Territory for the Law Courts building in Darwin.
Lane won numerous prizes, including the Brisbane (1965), the redcliffe (1965 and 1966), the Westfield (1971, 1976, 1977) and the Rockhampton (1973).
