Leon Hanson’s style shows a strong adherance to the Heidelberg school of landscape painting.
Hanson trained at the Julian Ashton school and at various times privately with Sir Arthur Streeton, Robert Johnson, and James Ranalph Jackson.
Hanson has exhibited widely, regularly, and successfully in Australia, and is represented in many private and institutional collections, and the AGNSW.
Hanson’s works are a regular feature of fine art auctions, the highest recorded price at auction for a Leon Hanson work being $6,050 (Oil on canvas, signed ‘Leon Hanson’ lower right, 75 x 101 cm, Est: $5,500-6,500 Joel’s Melbourne 20/08/1991, Lot No. 186)
